Chilov Lighthouse – Chilov Lighthouse, being one of the nineteen lighthouses in the Caspian Sea, was built in XIX century by foreigners. From the beginning to the middle of the XX century the residents of the Chilov Island were the people in exile. Their main employment was fishing, hunting seals. After the Second World War, geologists, geophysicists of Azerbaijan expanded their research-exploration works and discovered Chilov oilfield and chose this place as a staff during moving forward into the sea and discovery of legendary Neft Dashlari. Shortly after, a new settlement was built, the number of population increased, composition of the population changed, became richer from profession, national and employment point of view. Today with a total territory of 28 km2 and State Flag rising 70 m higher on the avenue in the central part, Chilov island has one thousand permanent registered residents. Approximately two thousand and five hundred people who go to work in Chilov island lives in there. The island grows more beautiful, improves socially and economically every day. This island as one of the most beautiful, light settlements is distinguishable and attracts tourists and guests. Chilov island lives its bright days as an oilmen settlement with a big potential. The most well-known and historical place of the island is Lighthouse. Lighthouse is a tall building constructed near the coast to show ships the way. In 2013 “Azermarka” company of Ministry of Communication and Information Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan introduced 5 postage stamps dedicated to lighthouses of Absheron archipelago.
