Chamber and Organ Music Hall of Azerbaijan State Philharmonic Hall – The building of chamber and organ music hall of Azerbaijan State Philharmonic Hall holds a special place among architectural monuments built in Baku. This building, immortalizing the great history in itself and adorning the capital with its grandiose architectural structure, is a part of rich culture of Azerbaijan. Historical researches confirm that after mid-XIX century people of German and Swedish descent began to come to Baku. Oil boom in Baku resulted in flow of people from different countries to the country. People of German and Swedish descent living in Baku decided to build a church for praying. The people of Azerbaijan, known for their tolerance throughout history, supported them to carry out this idea. Thus Evangelic-Lutheran Church was founded in Baku in March, 1896 and was put into service in 1899. The architecture of the building was 24 years old Adolf Eichler of German descent and building was one of the rare architectural pearls at the time in Baku. Nobel brothers were also interested in the construction of the building and participation of Emmanuel Nobel in the opening ceremony of the church along with Baku Governor was not a coincidence.Organ was installed in the church in 1900 and the same year a concert was organized in here. This church, as other religious centers, was closed in Soviet time and sometimes it faced demolition risk. Years later with the decision of Cabinet of Ministers the church was named chamber and organ music hall and was subordinated to Azerbaijan State Philharmonic Hall. The building carries the traces of the years passed since that time. The ceiling of the building is in complete useless conditions because of desolation. Old furniture and equipment make it impossible to arrange ceremonies in the building. With the initiatives of President Ilham Aliyev, capital restoration and reconstruction works bean in the building. According to the Order of President Ilham Aliyev, who pays special attention and care to moral values, on reconstruction and restoration of chamber and organ music hall of Azerbaijan State Philharmonic Hall, AZN 1 (one) million was allocated from President’s Reserve Fund. The reconstruction and restoration works carried out in the building during one month played an important part for it. Azerbaijani specialists implemented the capital reconstruction and restoration works keeping the original unique style and ancient historical architecture of the building. Special attention was given to acoustics of the building, one of the most beautiful samples of traditional German gothic architecture. Additionally, ventilation system was installed for the first time in the building. The organ was repaired by international specialist invited. The first music piece that was played in this church for the first time 110 years ago was “Toccata in D Minor” by Johann Sebastian Bach. http://www.president.az/articles/1371
