The Garden named after Mirza Fatali Akhundov, or commonly known as Akhundov Garden is located near “Icherisheher” station of metro, at the crowded intersection of Lermontov, Ahmad Javad and Said Rustamov streets. Statue of Mirza Fatali Akhundov, Azerbaijani playwright, writer, philosopher and enlightener is erected in this old park of Baku. The statue was built in 1930, the architect is Peter Sabsay. Peter Sabsay was born in Odessa, but lived and worked in Baku since 1926. Although the garden is small, it has all the facilities necessary for a park: cozy benches, original lamps, flower bushes, marble paths, lighted bushes, flowers in special pots and lawn. Covering an area of 1300 square meters the garden was reconstructed in 2008. After the reconstruction, more 3000 flowers and decorative bushes were planted in the garden.There are several interesting historical buildings around the garden. The house of Dmitri Mitrofanov, the oil tycoon, is located on the Said Rustamov Street. Next to the house of Mitrofanov, is located the “pink house” – dwelling house of the employees of State Bank. In the architecture of the building the elements characteristic to the buildings of Shaki and Shusha cities of XIX century were used.
