Shabran castle - is located in the preserve in Shabran village where remainders of an ancient city are protected. Excavations were carried out in the territory of the city in 1979-1989. As a result ruins of the ancient city and remnants of Shabran castle was discovered. Most parts of the Shabran Castle (10th century) have been washed away by flood. It is a defense purpose fortification. Castle walls have been fastened by semicircular towers. Lime, river stones and burnt bricks have been used in the construction. It had existed up to the 13th century. Destroyed by the Mongols, the castle was replaced by a small tower in the 14th century. It is quadrangular and resembles to Mardakan castles. Architects have used mixture solution in the construction. Poet Khagani Shirvani had been in prison here for a while. It had no doors and windows. He was put here by a rope from the chimney. As a prisoner he wrote the "Habsiyye" poems here.
