Ramana Tower – Ramana is located among the oilfields and historical center of oil industry of Azerbaijan. In the book “32 villages of Baku” it is indicated that the village was founded by a group of soldiers under the leadership of Lucius Julius Maximus from XII Thunderbolt Legion of Roman Empire in circa 84-96 AD. Ramana Tower is a tower located in Ramana village of Baku city dating back to XIV century. Height of the tower is 15 meters. The exact date of the construction of the tower built with white stones is not known. Probably it was constructed for defense purposes and used by Shirvanshahs as a castle. Ramana Tower was used as a film location for “Koroghlu”, “Nasimi” and “Babek” films. And the tower was reconstructed for the last time during the filming one of these films – “Koroghlu” film in 1956. At that time the tower was straggling. Historians note that there was a underground road from Ramana Tower to Maiden Tower once. There are two stairs for walking up to the tower walls. It is possible to walk up by one of them, spiral stairs from inner side of the tower to a corridor, which was built approximately half a meter outside from the tower. The other stone stair walks up to the upper side of the tower from the garden. By means of these stairs it is possible to walk up to the tower walls and look at the village. The stairs built for walking up from inner side is collapsed at half way. There was a well in the tower. But as time passed on, the well is filled with garbage because of desolation and as a result it is completely stacked. A great piece of stone at the right side, outside of the tower reminds about a good event, even it isn’t noticed at the first glance. Eminent Bulbul sang his aria namely “Koroghlu” near this very stone. Residents of the village talk to everybody, who visits the historical places and monuments, about this stone and introduce it very like that. http://www.contact.az/docs/2014/Want%20to%20Say/041600075737az.htm#.V06u__mLTIU http://www.anl.az/down/meqale/medeniyyet/medeniyyet_aprel2009/74396.htm
