Martyrs’ Lane (Sumgait)The Martyrs’ Lane, where hundreds of martyrs of courageous Sumgait city that has stood up against heavy tragedies were buried and has become a sanctuary for the people of the city is located on the east part of the Culture and Rest Park named after Nasimi. The Martyrs’ Lane was laid out in 1988. “20 Yanvar” Memorial (to the victims of Black January) was built in 1990, “Ulduzlar” Monument (“Stars”) was built in 1992. The sculptor of these memorials is Vagif Nazarov. Renovation and reconstruction works were carried out in the Martyrs’ Lane in 2014. During these works, “Ulduzlar” Memorial, which did not meet the requirements of the day for its quality of materials and subject-matter, was removed and Khojali memorial was erected instead of it. In front of the Martyrs’ Lane, “20 Yanvar” memorial complex is erected.
