The Christian temples that belong to medieval, have been investigated in other monuments, as well as in Amaras located in Garabag region – in Agoglan city. A temple was built in Amaras in the IV century which was a dwelling from antique time and this place has become one of the religious centres of Caucasian Albania. The Amaras monaster built in Sos village is one of the most interesting buildings in the area of Khojavand. This monaster has been the cathedral of Caucasian Albania over centuries. A school was opened in the monaster in the V century. The Amaras church was restored capitally by Khachin princes in the IX century, and has was reconstructed in the XIII century, became a monaster complex. It has been defined as a result of the archaeological excavations that reconstruction works were conducted in the temple in the X century, its area was broadened and extended towards the West. The main reason of the reconstruction of the temple in the X century was the turning of Amaras into sanguinary area of battle during the first Arabian occupation and the partial destruction of the first temple during the battle. Though the area of the temple has changed, it has saved its main shape. This church with a rectangle plan sketch has been built orderly from well-hewn white stones. A six-column ratonda is erected on the two-slope stone roof covering. The walls of the castle that surround the rectangle yard of the monaster and has four round towers, have been built from roughly-hewn stones. Dwelling and household rooms adjacent to the walls of the castle have been built in the yard. A narrow window has been installed on the entrance door in the facade part of the church, and a large bas-relief cross has been made on it. The surface of the temple has been covered in the form of an arch. It has become known from excavations that the temple is in the longish basilic form, the length inside is 15.9 m, the width is 11 m. It has been divided into three parts with four columns provided that there are two from either sides. The floor of the temple is from stone. There is a sanctuary with 1.2 m height at the Eastern part of it. The form of the sanctuary is usually oval. The sanctuary has a window with 1.2 m width and 2 m height. There are jubbakhanas at the Southern and Northern sides of the sanctuary. Special stairs have been made near the jubbakhanas for ascending the sanctuary from either side. It has been determined that the internal structure of the temple has not changed in the X-XIV centuries. But carved stones of the first temple have been used on the walls of the temple in the X century. A group of ornaments embroidered as an architectural decoration and met only on religious monuments in Amaras draws attention. And a tree has been described on the door of Amaras temple. As it is known, the tree description has been in fashion still since the first period of Christianity.
