Statue of Lesya Ukrainka. Lesya Ukrainka was born in a noble family. Her mother Olyona Pchilka was a writer. Ukrainka who caught bone plague in childhood had lived in Crimea, Georgia, Italy, and Egypt. She had been trained history and philology through homeschooling and learned several foreign languages. Her 100th anniversary was marked by the decision of the World Peace Council. There is a monument of Lesya Ukrainka in Garadagh district of Baku. On February 24, 2011, 140th anniversary of prominent Ukrainian poet Lesya Ukrainka was widely celebrated in Lokbatan settlement with the support of the Executive Power of Garadagh district. There has been an understanding about the fraternal ties between Garadagh district of Baku and the city of Irpen of Kiev province. On this occasion, the Garadagh District Executive Power and the Kiev region, Irpen City Administration signed an agreement on cooperation on July 27, 2003. As a result of the relations established, a park named after the poet was built in Lokbatan settlement and the poet"s bust was installed in the park in 2004.
