Akhund Mammadgulu mosque in Masalli

The mosque is situated in the centre of Masally district. Its construction date belongs to 1846 year. The mosque was built with the initiative of the local inhabitant Mirabdulla bey, his son Mirjavad bey and the Haji’s of Masally. Its yard side area is 600 square metres, and inside area is 18x9 metres.
The mosque was built with the red bricks. Its roof was worked out with the red tile. Its cupola which has the bouquet-form was covered with the red tile. The cupola is four cornered. The mosque has two entrance doors. There is the veranda in front of the doors. The veranda was joined to the mosque in 1989-90 years. In 1983 year the mosque’s roof was changed. These same repair works have been carried out by the government. This mosque has been used as the warehouse during the Soviet times. After 1983 year the mosque was used as the History Museum of Masally district. In 1989 year the mosque’s activity has been restored with the initiative of the city inhabitants. In 1997 year the repair-restoration works have been carried out in here with the initiative of the Hajis and Karbalais of the city. During the restoration the mosque’s walls have been worked out with the marble brought from Iran and the walls have been decorated from inside.
The mosque’s yard side area has been asphalted. Its height from the floor till the ceiling is 6 metres. Its floor is made of bricks, and its ceiling is wooden. Its pulpit is made of five-staged board. Its walls have been plastered with alabaster from inside. The ceiling is right-angled; it is placed on four wooden columns. The praying hall of the mosque has been separated with the wooden screen on two parts– the women and the men sections. The mosque’s arched sanctuary is in the wall. Its height is 5 metres.
