Azerbaijan State Museum of Art named after Rustam MustafayevThe museum was established in 1936 based on the Art Department of Azerbaijan State Museum. It was named after well-known theatre artist Rustam Mustafayev in 1943. Museum has more than 17,000 examples of fine arts, painting and sculpture works, applied and decorative art items. In the museum, mainly the works of Azerbaijani, Western European, Russian and Oriental painters and folk artists are kept. Expositions in the museum are organized historically and chronologically for countries. Extensive collection of valuable examples of the art of Azerbaijan is collected in the museum. Domestic possessions dating back to B.C. VI - IV millennia that were found during archeological excavations in the territory of Mingechevir and Khanlar rayons, glazed vessel, bronze, carpet and copper products of XI - XII centuries are exhibited here. Works of painters and sculptors such as Mikayil Abdullayev, Tahir Salahov, Alakbar Rzaguliyev, Gazanfar Khaligov, Ismayil Akhundov, Salam Salamzade, Baba Aliyev, Togrul Narimanbekov, Sattar Bahlulzade, Vajiha Samedova, Omer Eldarov, Farhad Khalilov, Fouad Abdurrahmanov, Tokay Mammadov, Ibrahim Zeynalov along with Mirza Gadim Iravani, Mir Mohsun Navvab, Usta Ganbar Garabaghi, Abbas Huseyni, Bahruz Kangarli, Azim Azimzade are kept in the museum. The works of Leonardo Bassano, Francesco Solimena, Adriaen Brouwer, Justus Sustermans, Pieter Claesz, Fritz August von Kaulbach, Jules Dupre and other prominent painters represent Western European art. Russian art is represented by the works of Alexei Gavrilovich Venesianov, Vasiliy Vasilievich Vereshchagin, Valentine Alexandrovich Serov, Igor Emmanuilovich Grabar, Sergei Vasilevich Gerasimov, Alexander Alexandrovich Deyneka and others in the museum. Exhibits of the museum were shown in foreign countries several times, various exhibitions, show of exhibits of the museums of foreign countries, other cultural and mass events are organized in the museum. Museum has restoration workshop, library, laboratory and funds. A branch of the museum was opened in Ganja in 1938. The museum publishes scientific works, catalogues, booklets and albums.
