Baku Khans lived in the palace, located on the territory to the left of Shamakhi gate during the occurrence of the territory of Azerbaijan khanates in the 17th century, after the collapse of the Shirvanshahs state. Baku khanate also included 39 villages in Absheron. Baku khanate was dependent on Irani shahs state until 1747. Baku khans freely ruled the city from 1747 to 1806 years. In 1806, after the Russian occupation in the Khan"s Palace there located the Russian military garrison. In Soviet times, this area housed the police department. Once upon a time there was a flower garden. Till our days only entrance portal and restored small mosque survived from this magnificent palace. Under the gates of Khans palace there still stands an underground room. In the late Middle Ages, at some distance from the fortified walls of the city of Baku there were other Khan"s palace and garden. In 1985-86 there was carried out archaeological research in the territory of the khans’ palace. There have been detected cultural objects in a large number, underground archaeological structures, and underground water pipe.
