Shir¬vanshahs’ summer house – “Shah’s garden” – attracts the attention among the valuable medieval monuments that have reached our time. This summer house which is at approximately 2 km distance from seaside, in the North-East part of Nardaran village, in the high sandy place takes a ruling position for its area among neighbouring buildings. The seaside of Nar¬da¬ra¬n, favorable climate, stra¬tegically significant geographical place, vicinity of the defense tower of the XIII-XIV century has made namely this place suitable for Shir¬van shahs’ rest. It would be right to call this building which is known as “Khan’s garden” among people, as “Shah’s garden”. Absence of epigraphic scripts on the summer house built in the style of Shir¬van-Absheron architecture school, the vicinity of Shirvan shahs to the palace complex in “Icharishahar” in Baku for its architectural plan, construction technics and archi¬tec¬to¬ni¬cs allow to relate this building to the XIII-XIV centuries. If consider that the khanates were established in the North Azer¬baijcan in the XVII-XVIII centuries, then this garden is undeniably “Shah’s garden”. According to the written sources, “Shah’s garden” consists of several small subsidiary service rooms, a pool and two water wells among comp¬lex buildings and neighbouring vineyards. Perhaps, the area of the garden has possessed main arched entrance and has been surrounded with fences once. The entrance of the facade directed towards the sea begins with main arrow-shaped arch of deep niche. The edge of the arch swells out a bit from the wall surface and is completed with a ledge surrounding the building. “Shah’s garden” has been lightened from side wings, with three rectangular window foldings in smooth-surface simple facades. The windows perpendicular to the doors differ from others with their relatively large area. According to people, garden building which is currently deprived of the doors and windows, some time ago has become an integral part of the surrounding landscape with doors and windows which had been made of walnut-tree and had been the product of the delicate deco¬ra¬tive engraving art. The centre of “Shah’s garden” dwelling house is completed with arrow-shaped dome. Such a covering system of Absheron peninsula belonging to the religious buildings makes the house similar to the mosques at first sight. All the facades of the building are simple and without decor. The stone gutters regulate the flow of the rain and gives the facade relative resplendence. The architectural-plan structure of the mo¬nu¬men¬tal building is quadrangular, and the sizes of the sides are 14 m. The building attracts attention with its accurate laco¬nic geometrical size, strict architectural form and accurate solution of the inner space. The plan solution begins with leading of the main entrance arch to the quadrangular hall. The four cameras at the corners of the hall has caused its cross-shaped plan structure. The two-storeyed cameras at the corners of “Shah’s garden” join the one-storeyed hall and complete it. The arrow-shaped arched room entrances have been installed on symmetric arrows in the interior composition of the building. The corner places have been covered with small domes against which the trumpet arches lean. The domes have been installed as eight-cornered in the South placements, and round, smooth in the North direction. The hall attracts the attention with its simple solution. The central cover system with dome cons¬truction stands due to the constructive lifting capacity of simple stalactites and four arrow-shaped arch. The central round pool in the interior spreads mild oasis to the environment, and according to the information of people, has played the role of entrance to the underground tunnel towards the direction (sea, defense tower and pi¬r).
