Museum of Medicine of AzerbaijanEstablishment, activity and development of Museum of Medicine of Azerbaijan is directly related to the history of medicine. This museum was established in 1984. At the entrance bas-reliefs of Asclepius, god of health in Greek mythology and his daughters Hygeia and Panacea attracts the attention. In the first hall, the bust of Avicenna, one of the greatest scholars XII century’s East and the photo of his manuscript dating back to 1143 of his “Law of Physician’s Science” work that even today is learnt at several universities of Europe, are exhibited. In the second hall, surgical tools of middle ages, copies of different medical treaties of physicians of XIII-XIX centuries originals of which are kept in Institute of Manuscripts are shown. In the third hall, numerous photos and document about establishment of hospitals equipped with up-to-date medical equipment for that time based on the decision of oil industrialists of Baku at the beginning of XX century are exhibited. In the fourth hall, substantial information on our medicine during Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the first democratic republic in the East, the first building of Baku State University, its first rectors surgeon Vasily Razumovski and neuropathologist Sergey Davidenko, the first graduation of Medical faculty, professorial and lecturer staff is shown. In the fifth hall, extensive information is given about organization of health in pre-war soviet Azerbaijan, establishment and activity of Azerbaijan Medical Institute and Qualification Institute of Doctors. In the corner dedicated to Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society, its first recognition badges, clothes are exhibited. The last hall of the museum is dedicated to the works carried out in health sector under the guidance of President Ilham Aliyev of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
