Gene pool garden – It is located in Shaki. Examples of plants of wild and cultural fruit and berry plants of Balakan-Shaki region have been gathered, sanitized, and the gene pool garden has been created on the basis of them. New apple, pear, cornel sorts have been ripened, and have been introduced to the state sorting test. Work on creation of the gene pool garden, consisting of wild and cultural fruit and berry plants, was intended to be carried out with the Institution of Genetics and Selection. And the botany group had included the learning of ether-oil plants of the region into their investigation plans. Learning of the plant pests and preparing of the measures against them must have been carried out together with the Zoology Institute employees. The works on land cover, preparing of the land maps for purposes of the more efficient use from them, have been intended to carry out with the employees of Soil Sciences Institute. Decorative and fruit trees brought from other countries, placed in the yard area of the Science Centre and in the gene pool garden, have already been adapted to the local conditions and climate. Shaki City Executive Authority has separated 20 hectares of land for dropping the gene pool garden, and about four thousand valuable apple, pear, quince, cherry-plum, medlar, cherry trees have been planted there.
