Said Khalifa temple – Located in Jil village of Lankaran district Said Khalifa temple is the most beautiful memory of the XIX century. People called this temple “Se khalifa”, it means “Three khalifas”. There are tomb monuments with the height from 40 sm till 1 metre. Stone pieces with the signs of feet, hands, arrows, swords, spears, bludgeons and other weapon means on the tombstones attract attention. The symbols reflecting the sun have also been scrapped on the tomb monuments. And there is one plate stone with the footprint near the temple, and it is called “Foot of Ali” in the people. As it’s said, a lot of sayyids and scientists who ran away from oppression of Yezid’s father Muaviyya from Arabistan, have been buried in “Said Caliph” temple. During the period of Arab Caliphate number of holy people, scientists and sayyids, prosecuted by caliphs, found refuge in various places. Some of them also brought of the refuge and settled down in Azerbaijan, including the Lankaran territory. Graves of these people have been preserved as a Sanctuary. One of them is also situated in Jil village of Lankaran territory. The tombs in the sanctuary are graves of those saints who brought refuge here. According to the above, this is the temple of three persons: famous scientist and philosopher Said Jamaladdinm his father Said Mis Abbas and his uncle’s son. But there are also the tombs of Sayyids living here in ancient times. The temple is still visited by the people from different places as the sacred place. According to the information, these Sayyids were from generation of 4-th imam Zeynalabdin. Both the fire-worship and the Islam examples can be seen in the temple. According to the information, there have also been the religious monuments of fire-worships. The employees of Azerbaijan National Sciences Academy have established that one of the trees on Said Caliph’s cemetery has reached one thousand years. This proves the antiquity of this cemetery again. Said Caliph temple is preserved by the government as the cultural-historical memorial.
