Only two of several tombs built near Agbil village of Guba region, on the road Darband-Guba once, have reached our time. The tombs “Agbil” are called “Four Agbil” by local people. And perhaps, this is not by chance. The tombs “Agbil”, of which three till 1935, and currently two have remained safe, apparently, comprised a complex consisting of four tombs once. The tombs differ from other Shirvan monuments as they have been built from red brick on a stone platform. According to the architect A.V.Salamzade, they even look like Southern Azerbaijan tombs from this viewpoint and take a special place among the tombs of Azerbaijan in the XVI century for either the architectural content and pecularities, or the content and pecularities of inscriptions on them.
The academician of Russian Academy, orientalist B.Dorn has dealt with these tombs and inscriptions on them, for the first time in the past century. Besides the inscriptions of the tombs “Shah Murad” and “Sheikh Majid” mentioned by him with the title “The Pir of Agbil”, he notes also the existence of the third inscription. Afterwards these tombs were studied thoroughly in 1935, 1948 and 1980 years.
The tomb “Sheikh Mazyad” is octagonal from outside, and quadratic from inside. The tomb has been covered with tent-form dome from outside, and spherical dome from inside. The walls of the monument have been built with baked brick, the platform part and lower flanks of the door with white stone, limestone. The platform part of the tomb does not have a projection, that is the platform and the surface of the wall of the tomb are one and the same. There is also a Sanduga without inscription inside the monument.
It is known from arabic inscription carved on a white stone board on the door of the tomb, that the tomb has been built for Sufi Rafiaddin Sheikh Mazyad in Hijrah 940 year (1533-1534).
The second tomb, according to its inscription, was called “Shah Murad” tomb. This tomb is also quadratic and has a deep portal on the east side. This portal which is on the facade side of the building, has a different peculiarity according to its structure and this is because the portal’s side walls, unlike the other walls, are uncovered, open and also in the form of a broad arch. According to its inscription, it is known that this tomb has also been built in 1533-1534. And the customer was Sheikh Mazyadin Shah Murad. As it is seen from the inscriptions, these tombs have been family necropolis. Perhaps, the other family members of the generation have been buried in other tombs that are currently tumbled down.
