Haji Mahmud Efendi’s tomb (Blue tomb) – is situated in Aslanbayli village of Gazakh region. It was built by the Azerbaijanis who live in the West of Azerbaijan, in Borchali in 1896.  Haji Mahmud Efendi lived in 1835-1896 and had been a well-known religious figure of the time. He got religious education in Turkey. Haji Mahmud Efendi had ordered the construction of a big tomb dedicated to his dear teacher Mirhamza Sayyid Nigari Karabakhi on the place of his grave in Amasya city of Turkey. There was a board in front of the Tomb"s with Haji Mahmud Efendi’s name written on it. The Tomb in Aslanbayli village is an example of beautiful architecture. The monument was covered with cupolas, was faced with thick architecture decorations, ornaments and inscriptions. There were arches constructed in the Tomb giving special beauty. The construction date is clear from the information scraped on the wall of the monument with Arabic script; this sentence is written above the entrance: "Binai-tarbeye-tarich arar tabi bulur gavvas”, which means literally: “Said who this garig became pleasure Allah trip is this. 1318." From the meaning of this couplet it is clear that there is a word "gerig", which had been found in the poem with the help of the ebjed calculation. It indicates year 1310th according to Hegira calendar; and 1892 according to Christian calendar. But year 1318 had been shown at the end of the couplet. Historical investigators count the Tomb building’s more correct date 1892. A graveyard is surrounding the construction. With the initiative of Hamid Efendi, a Mosque and Haji Mahmud’s house were built on the near castle in 1909. Haji Mahmud Efendi’s tomb (the inner area is 4x4 metres) is in the form of a quadrangle. The height of the tomb is 6 metres. The walls have been plastered with sand-cement solution and laid with green color from inside. The tomb has one entrance door and two windows. There are two graves inside. Haji Mahmud Efendi’s grave is inside from the entrance door – on the left side, and Seyid Yasin Efendi’s grave is on the right side. The words in the Persian language have been written on the gravestones. We should mention that Seyid Yasin Efendi was Mahmud Efendi’s friend. The walls of the tomb have been covered with stone flags. The tomb has been preserved as it was. But the reconstruction works were carried out here in 1987. The reconstruction works were carried out due to the collected alms in the tomb. The tomb has been registered officially.
