Mirza Alakbar Sabir ParkThe park named after our famous satirical poet Mirza Alakbar Sabir is one of the parks located in Sabail district, Baku. The park is surrounded by Icherisheher fortress walls on the south, Istiglaliyyat street on the north, Constitution Court on the east and the building of Institute of Manuscripts of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, commonly known as Ismailiyya. The park was constructed in the place of “Kaspi” publishing house in 20s of previous century. The park was developed in stages. In 1922, the statue of Mirza Alakbar Sabir was erected near the fortress walls. The sculptor of the statue was Jacob Keylikhis and the architect was Sirishev. The area of the park was considerably extended, renovated and greenery planted in 1950s. In connection with this, erection of better and new statue of the poet became urgent issue. Thus new statue of Mirza Alakbar Sabir was erected in the park in 1958. This time the statue was placed in the center of the park. Greenery and renovation works were carried out in the park in recent years.
