The world's first private Museum of miniature books, located in the historical part of Baku, near the Shirvanshahs palace, an architectural monument of the 15th century, was opened on April 23, 2002 on the International Book and Copyright Day, announced by decision of UNESCO.The museum exposition is placed in 27 stained glass windows. 3750 miniature books published in 60 countries. The museum’s book fund has more than 5300 miniatures. Zarifa Salakhova, creator of the museum, has been collecting them for more than twenty years. Exposition sections include “Miniature books published in Azerbaijan”, “Rare miniature books”, “Religious literature in miniature books”, as well as “Pushkiniana” in the poem of A.S. Pushkin's "Eugene Onegin", published in 1837 in St. Petersburg. Among them is the book “G. Aliev Contract of the Century”, published in 1998 in Baku. You can get acquainted with miniature books published in Japan, England, France, Italy, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Cuba, Switzerland and the former Soviet republics. Visitors are presented books published in 62 countries of the world. Most books are published in English. Their sizes range from 2 millimeters to 10 millimeters. The smallest book in the collection is 3 microcytes printed in Japan. The books are called “Birth Stone”, “Zodiac Signs and Symbols”, “Language of Flowers”. These books were published in 1979. Their cover is made of sheep skin and has a size of 2 × 2 mm. Each book consists of 16 pages, in turn from 50 to 100 characters. They also have their own reading lens. Illustrated books include 4 brochures 3.5 × 3.5 mm, printed in Munich in 1964, 19 brochures "Pushkinian", proverbs and parables published in the USSR. In 1985, the Book publishing house in Moscow published a five-volume book on portraits and words of A.S. Pushkin and A.M. Gorki, 6 × 9 mm, “Miracle of Miracles”. This book has 24 pages and 9 pages on each page. Only 200 copies were printed at that time.

The museum also has rare religious books. These are mainly Koran editions of the 17th century, four volumes of the "Gospel book" (1906), a Catholic prayer book, the Torah, and Buddhist stories. The total circulation of rare books is small. Sometimes the circulation of such books does not reach 100. Most of the books here are over 100 years old. The museum’s oldest book is the Koran, published in 1672 in Saudi Arabia. The museum also has a mini-book containing only 5 original songs from the famous Beatles band. Museum funds are constantly updated with new publications, as well as free publications. 4300 books in the museum are displayed in 35 display cases. In addition, the museum has more than 6,000 books.
