Contemporary Art MuseumContemporary Art Museum in Baku was established with the initiative of Mehriban Aliyeva and the support of heydar Alieyv Foundation.Main part of the exposition of the museum is consisted of best painting and sculpturing works of the period from the second half of the XX century till today of Azerbaijan’s avant-garde art. This exposition is the collection of painting and sculpturing works representing observations, researches and freedom of human soul. Painting and sculpturing works of contemporary artists of other countries are also represented in the museum as an incarnation of nation-wide aspect of the art: works of Western avant-garde painters Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Salvador Dali are demonstrated in a separate hall. The fine art of Azerbaijan can be regarded as “the memory of the people”. Here are also exhibited the collections of leading figures of figurative arts like Sattar Bahlulzade, Tahir Salahov, Mikayil Abdullayev, Huseyn Aliyev, Taghi Taghiyev, Nadir Abdurrahmanov, Elmira Shahtakhtinskaya, Nadir Gasimov, Oktay Sadikh-zade, Tokay Mammadov, Toghrul Narimanbeyov, Omar Eldarov. Contemporary Art Museum is the world of masterpieces consisting of more than 1000 works of art of painter and sculptors of Azerbaijan in the last 70 years of modern times. Part of the exposition reflects the “unknown” section formed in Soviet times and belonging to quite different movement of national painting art. It is the collection of unique works of Ahraf Murad, Kamal Ahmad, Mirjavad Javad, Rasim Babayev that are protected by the museum. The author of the concept, architecture and design, installation, collection and exposition type of the museum is Altay Sadikh-zade. There are no closed forms in the museum. Two floors are located in single open space and connected with “Forgotten stairs” object. One of the connecting factors is color: the museum is white. The museum itself entirely is an example of avant-garde art together with its freestyle architecture, beams, exposition of paintings and statues.
