Baku State CircusIn Azerbaijan the first professional circus – zoo was constructed by well-known Nikitin brothers in 90s of XIX century. After a while this building constructed with wood caught fire and burnt down. In 1905, a new circus building in another part of the city was constructed and put into service. Azerbaijan’s first national circus troupe was founded in 1945. Troupe included not only circus entertainments, but also performance of estrade and ballet actors. Troupe consisting of performances of Anvar Guliyev, “Star Sisters”, rope-walker Alikhan and other actors was regularly on tours in the territory of former USSR and in Africa, Asia, America and Europe with its “Dawn over the top” program.Current building of Baku State Circus was built in 1967 based on the design of architects Ismayilov and Leontyev. The building was equipped with state of art technical facilities for its time and from the architectural point of view it still keeps its place among the circuses of the world.
