Seda Educational Theatre was set up under the University of Arts in 1962. Student performances, course works and graduation plays are performed on the theatre’s stage. Theory unites with practice at the Educational Theatre. Since the establishment of the theatre and up until now its stage has seen successful directions of such plays as Akhundov’s The Tale of the Bear that Caught the Bandit and Molla Ibragim Khalil, Alchemist, Possessor of the Philosopher’s Stone, Abdurraghim Akhverdov’s The Devastated Nest, Uzeyir Hajibeyov’s If Not That One, Then This One and Arshin Mal Alan, Jafar Jabbarli’s The Bride of Fire, Aydin, In 1905 and The Faded Flowers, Jalil Mammadguluzadeh’s The Dead, Samed Vurgun’s Vaghif, Suleyman Rustam’s Gachag Nabi and Chimnaz Khanym In Her Sleep, Ilyas Afandiyev’s The Song Stayed in the Mountains and In the Crystal Palace, Molière’s The Bourgeois Gentleman and The Misanthrope, Shakespeare’s Othello and Twelfth Night, Nodar Dumbadze’s Don’t Be Afraid, Mother and tens of plays by other authors. Over the last few years many plays staged by Seda Educational Theatre participated successfully at international festivals held in other countries and were awarded prizes and certificates and won the titles of laureate and even the Grand Prix, which is considered to be the most honorific award in the world of art. Today Seda commands a two-storey building, an auditorium seating 190 persons, a wide stage, a sound recording studio and various rooms for rehearsals, which enables to prepare and produce any play here.
