State Pantomime Theatre – State Pantomime Theatre is the first pantomime theatre in history of theatre of Azerbaijan. One of the advantages of this type of theatre is that it has an international language. There are no limits for pantomime. Bakhtiyar Khanizade, assistant professor of “Stage acting and choreography” department of Azerbaijan State Institute of Culture and Art, Honored Art Worker of the Republic of Azerbaijan, founded pantomime theatre in Azerbaijan. He graduated Saint Petersburg State Academy of Theatre, Musicc and Cinematography in 1987.State Pantomime Theatre was founded as “Gathering of Madmen” Pantomime theatre-studio on May 16, 1994 with the order of Polad Bulbuloghlu, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and was functioning under Theatre of Young Spectators. This theatre undertook a responsible duty with introducing and causing audience of Azerbaijan to love the pantomime genre of theatre. Actors of Pantomime theatre were the students of Robert Sturua, a world-famed Georgian director. “Gathering of Madmen” Pantomime theatre-studio was given State Theatre status on March 06, 2000. Art director of the theatre is Bakhtiyar Khanizade.Today the theatre functions in the building of former “Shafag” cinema at 49, Azadlig Avenue.
