The village is located in the central part of Vedibasar district, 4 km south-east of the village Boyuk Vedi, the center of Vedi district, on the bank of the river Vedi, on the Irevan-Vedi highway.
Until 1918, only Azerbaijani Turks lived in the village. In 1922-1988 it was a mixed village, where Azerbaijanis and Armenians lived together. In 1988, the village was completely Armenianized.
In the statistics of 1873 we find the first information about the village of the same name in the Aran part of Vedibasar county, in the place of the current village Taytan. There were 166 Azerbaijani Turks (91 men, 75 women) registered in the village at that time in 18 farms.
The rural population in 1886 was 177 people (110 men, 67 women) in 23 households, in 1897 - 316 people, in 1916 - 366 people.
During the Armenian-Muslim war of 1918-1920, the village was destroyed by the Armenian Dashnaks and its population was expelled.
In 1922, 183 of the refugee population of the village were able to return. In the same year, 81 Armenian immigrants from Turkey were settled in the village, and the village became a mixed population village.
In 1926, 175 Azerbaijanis and 114 Armenians lived in the village , while in 1931 there were 217 Azerbaijanis and 224 Armenians. As can be seen, the natural increase of Azerbaijanis and the artificial increase of Armenians in the village is obvious. This process continued in the following years. In particular, in 1946-1947 the village hosted a significant Armenian population brought from abroad, and in 1949 the forced relocation of the Azerbaijani population of the village to Azerbaijan played a crucial role in the Armenianization of the village.
On January 25, 1978, the village was renamed Vanashen in honor of the Armenians who came from the Turkish city of Van.
During the 1988 genocide of the Western Azerbaijanis, the Azerbaijani minority in the village was expelled to the last man, and the Armenianization of the village was completed. At that time there were 24 houses of the Azerbaijani population living in the village. This time they went more to the Salyan district and the city of Baku.
