Sharur District is one of the 7 districts of the Nakhchivan Autonomus Republic of Azerbaijan. Sharur District was formed on August 8, 1930. It borders in the south and southwest on Iran, in the north and northeast on the Republic of Armenia. The north and east of the territory is mountainous. There is a steep mountain system here. Its area is 811.14 km2. There is 1 city and 65 rural settlements in the district. The center is the city of Sharur. Historical monuments here are represented by ancient settlements of the Bronze Age along the banks of the Araz and Arpachay. Stone and obsidian tools of the Mustevian period were found in the Kazma cave, and samples of decorative ceramics were found at the site of Shakhtakht.
