Barda rayon is located to the North-East of Kur-Arax lowland. Barda town, the administrative center of the rayon, is located in the center of Garabag steppe, on the bank of Tartarchay river. Tartar, Khachin rivers and Upper Garabag canal pass through this rayon and Kur river flows by its border. There are two nearby lakes located in 3 km from rayon center and to the right side of Barda-Tartar road. Third lake, named Agali, is 23 km away from Barda. Istisu – the hot sulphur spring is located 3 km away from Barda, on Barda-Tartar road. Istisu facility has all suitable conditions for taking healing baths. There is another mineral hot spring in the vicinity of Muganli village. Flora of the rayon mainly consists of arid steppe and semi-steppe specific plants.
Plane tree, oak, elm, walnut tree and other precious tree species grow in the forests covering 6856 hectare area of the rayon. Fauna of the rayon mainly consists of animals like wolves, jackals, wild boars, hares, and birds like turaj, pheasant, goose, duck, etc. During hunting season appropriate state bodies allow for hunting of hares, some birds and fishing with rods. Barda has a developed agriculture. Grain-growing, cattle-breeding and cotton-growing are of important agricultural areas in Barda. Advantageous natural conditions of the rayon allow for high productivity in vegetable and melon growing. Horticulture is rapidly growing in homesteads.
