Agsu has been in operation as administrative-territorial district since October 8, 1943.Agsu was a city-type settlement until 1967, in the same year it was entitled with city status. It has been known as a settlement since the 15th century. Aghsu District is an agricultural district. Cattle-breeding, grain-growing, cotton-growing and gardening play an important role in the economy of this district. There is a 55 km-motor road in the area of the district. 37 km-Baku-Shamakhi-Yevlakh road belongs to the second category, 18 km-Aghsu-Kurdemir-Bahramtapa road – to the third category.
