Babek district is situated in the central part of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. It borders with Armenia in the north, with Iran - in the south. The Babek region was founded under the initiative of the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev in 1978. Its territory is 760 square kilometers. There is 1 city, 2 settlements and 33 villages in the district. Landscape in the north and southeast of the country is mountainous; lowlands are in the south and southwest. There are rock salt and construction materials fields in the territory of region, springs like Sirab, Vayhir, Ganab etc. The summer is hot, winteris cold. Average temperature of january is from -3 C to -10 C; in July - from +28 C to +35 C (sometimes reaches up up to +40 C). There are storage pools: Araz, Uzunoba, Nehram, Sirab etc.
