The village is located in the central part of Vedibasar district, in the Agrydag Valley, 10 km southwest of the village of Boyuk Vedi, which is the center of the Vedi district, 3 km from the Irevan-Nakhchivan-Baku railway line, the Irevan-Nakhchivan highway, on a drain separating from the Vedi river.
Until 1920, only Azerbaijani Turks lived in the village, in 1922-1988 it was a mixed village where Azerbaijanis and Armenians lived together.
In 1832, 149 Azerbaijanis (51 men, 68 women) lived in the village in 23 families, in 1873 - 864 people (476 men, 388 women) in 138 households, in 1886 - 960 people (535 men, 425 women) in 176 households, in 1897 - 1165 people, in 1916 - 1159 people.
During the Armenian-Muslim war of 1918-1920, the village was ravaged by Armenian Dashnaks, the population was subjected to murders and robberies, expelled from their native places.
In 1922, only 311 people from the surviving refugee population of the village were able to return, but by that time 290 people had already witnessed the placement of Armenians in the village. In 1926, the share of the rural population was 331 Azerbaijanis, 240 Armenians, in 1931 - 588 Azerbaijanis, 276 Armenians.
In 1953, only 13 families were deported from the village to Azerbaijan, but soon most of them returned to their native villages.
Before the genocide of Western Azerbaijanis in 1988, there were up to 500 houses of Azerbaijanis and only 40 houses of Armenians in the village of Khalisa. Early in the morning of November 30, 1988, the village was surrounded by Armenian cars, a little later the district leaders - Secretary Hakobyan, Chairman RICK Vartanyan, prosecutor Adamyan, his deputy Barseghyan, police chief Papoyan, etc. drove into the village in special cars, "warned" the population about the impending attack, took light things with them (that is, gold and money) and advised them to leave the village.
But a little later, from the villages of Avshar and Develi, more than 300 "bearded" Armenian bandits entered the village, first intimidated, robbed, beat people, took away all their money and gold, and then proceeded to rob valuable household items. In the end, they set the Azerbaijani population of the village in front of them and began to lead them to the already fully Armenized village of Shirazli. But the military who arrived with tanks from the Sharur district blocked their way, rescued the hostages and took them to the Sharur district.
The victims of these events were Ismailova Gulgaz Mohammed gyzy, Huseynov Huseyn Babir oghlu and Safarov Shirzad Gafar oghlu from the village of Khalisa.
