Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra named after Uzeyir HajibeyovAzerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra named after Uzeyirb Hajibeyov was founded in 1920 with the initiative of Uzeyir Hajibeyov, the founder of professional music of Azerbaijan. Conductors like Baton, Klemperer, Stiedry, Golovanov closely assisted in establishing the orchestra. Symphony Orchestra goes under the name of Uzeyir Hajibeyov since 1940. Repertory of Symphony Orchestra includes works of Western European, Russian and Azerbaijani composers. Having look at the performance history of Symphony Orchestra, we can see highly skilled performance of Tchaikovsky’s Sixth Symphony, “Francesca da Rimini” overture, concertos for violin and piano, “Variations on a Rococo theme” for cello and orchestra, “Italian Capriccio”, Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Shahrazad” symphonic suite, Borodin’s “Bogatyri” symphony, Schubert’s “Unfinished Symphony” and other works, performing with great programs in anniversary concerts arranged in Baku on the occasion of 150th anniversary of eminent German composer Beethoven. Conductors like Chernyakhovsky, Goldstein, Stolerman and etc. have worked with state symphony orchestra in different years. Prominent conductor Niyazi started conducting the Symphony Orchestra in 1938. Until his death in 1948 he was the primary conductor and artistic leader of the symphony orchestra. Under the leadership of Niyazi, the orchestra reached highest professional summits, became a genuine art school preparing several generations of musicians. Symphony Orchestra successfully performed Kara Karayev’s Leyli and Majnun” symphonic poem, Fikrat Amirov’s “Nizami” string symphony, Jeyhun Hajiyev’s Third Symphony and works of our other composers under the leadership of Niyazi.
